How do you Evaluate an MLM or Network Marketing Company?

2010 will see more people than every looking for their Plan B or an alternative to their employment situation. In many parts of the USA there is unemployment up to 16.8%. Six figure income earners are now struggling to keep their families together with lesser jobs paying as little as $20K or even less! People from ALL walks of life are looking for an alternative path to either create new or REcreate a suitable and generous income. Network Marketing traditionally thrives during these economic downturns, and, to be sure, people are often duped into all kinds of ""creative"" opportunities. To add to the mix, myriad self proclaimed Internet Gurus entice the most intelligent people into scams or ventures that only benefit them! To be sure, a set of Guidelines is requisite to making an educated and informed decision, BEFORE you decide to jump into Network Marketing, MLM o r Direct Sales.

Here are the Guidelines and Evaluation Points I reviewed on the Thursday evening Generic Skills Training call for The Distributor Rights Associaton on January 14, 2010. Be sure to use them and your common sense, when researching a potential Network Marketing, MLM or Direct Sales company. Remember, treat your selection of a company seriously, with respect and as a partner for life. You will be spending lots of time and energy with the people in the company and on your particular team. Make sure it is a comfortable fit AND a reputable company that will be here 10 years from now so that your hard won income does not evaporate.

Guidelines and Evaluation Points:

~~~~ Be sure to consider and evaluate the Company Management and Experience. Although you are seeking a Business oriented company, it must be one whose Management knows what it takes to build a network of people or team, and one whose Integrity is exemplified in the Company Policies and Procedures or Terms and Conditions which reflects their INTENTION toward the Distributor. Policies and Procedures or Terms and Conditions are the CONTRACT between you and the company and outline THEIR REPSONSIBILITY TO YOU, and YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO THEM. Is this contract Distributor friendly or do they display Company Greed? If you were an Airline Pilot seeking a position with American Airlines, you would want to know YOUR obligations to them as well as THEIR obligations to you BEFORE you signed on with them, wouldn't you? Treat the potential contract with your future Networking Company very seriously and in the same way as any other Employment Contract! You will have to live with it once you agree to the terms.
~~~~Be sure to pay attention to the basics! Make sure that the company you are looking at has a company website that has a listing with contact information including physical address, email address, working telephone numbers, listing of all the Corporate Officers with their experience, Company history and philosophy, Policies & Procedures or Terms & Conditions and is Professionally made and not a home made site.

~~~~ Be sure you can be excited and passionate about the product or product line. Then be selective and find a company whose products not only fit YOUR criteria, but whose products are exemplary AND have some passion of their own! Seth Godin wrote a book called The Purple Cow. Roy H. Williams (The Wizard of Ads) refersto the ability of a product to stand out and get through “Boca’s Point” which is in the forefront of the brain. Boca’s Point does not allow the mundane or “the usual” to get past it to the rest of the brain. An example of this would be when you are driving down a country lane and spot herds of cows on the left and right; all black and white or brown and white. Soon they blur in your vision as they are “familiar” and all alike. Then your companion shouts, “Look at that” and you spot Babe the Big Blue Ox with pink and green polka dots all over his body. Babe COULD get through Boca’s Point because it STANDS OUT IN A CROWD. This is called “A Purple Cow”. Make sure your product line can be seen, tasted, and experienced, all with integrity as a Purple Cow in your Industry.
~~~~Be sure that the Price Point for the product or product line is one that is not only fair to the Company, but also to the End User, whether they be a customer or distributer on your team. Traditionally, MLM, Direct Sale and Network Marketing company's product pricing is usually a bit higher (so they can pay out commissions to you) but should be equally generous to both you the distributor, and the company. This is why I personally would NOT select a company that is publicly traded. They have to report and satisfy their Board of Directors and Shareholders, and care less about the pockets of their distributers. When your products are fairly priced and have exemplary quality, your ability to grow AND RETAIN a large customer and distributer (END USER) base becomes easier! Recurring Income is based on the ability to gather and RETAIN customers who purchase over and over and over again! When the pricing is fair AND the quality of the products is exemplary and does its job, the end user will continue to purchase products, Sustaining and Stablizing your Recurring Income!

~~~~Be sure The Compensation Plan is fair and treats you, the distributer and the company itself fairly and as equal partners. There are all types of compensation plans; binaries (where you build 2 teams), Matrices (Matrix either square or triangle & promising "spill over"), Unilevel (building one long line) and more including some very convoluted hybred plans! The plan you select MUST pay the AVERAGE, part time people, not just the 2% top distributers. It must also give you the ability to be rewarded and thrive on Retail Sales, if you wish. Again, Recurring income is built on CONTINUED use of product by both distributor and customers (end users). Thus, it is essential that your plan PAYS the AVERAGE person who is just starting out so they will continue to use the products and build their businesses for years to come. Large amounts of new distributers become END USERS and do not "build a business" with you. When your compensation plan rewards you based on VOLUME of product purchased, YOU WIN, because your Recurring Income checks will stabalize and grow as these satisfied End Users CONTINUE to purchase product and ocassionally refer others.
~~~~Select a Sponsor who shows that they care about you and YOUR goals and is willing to help YOU on your Journey to Success. This person is your Business Partner! Time and again, I have seen people who know nothing about Network Marketing sign up with the first person who calls them and paints them a rosie picture of riches in the next 30-60 days. You will be building a relationship with this person, so be sure that their knowledge, passion and integrity matches yours. To be sure, you will be IN BUSINESS FOR YOURSELF, but should NOT BE BY YOURSELF. The wonderful part of Network Marketing, if done properly, is the Team effort including Upline Leadership and Support. It is essential that Your Upline Team Members will lend support, develop and encourage team spirit & culture and supply leadership, perhaps including tools such as a Team Website, Continued Education, a Personal Development Program and an ACTION PLAN for all on an ongoing basis for ALL members regardless of their geographic location, limitations or initial abilities. Synergy, integrity and honesty must prevail within the team and all actions should benefit ALL, not just the few.

~~~~The economic downturn has created a natural Timing in the Industry for Network Marketing however there should be a “Window of Opportunity” with your chosen Company. If your company is one of 200 who sell blue and green marbles, with no distinction, the company does NOT offer a Window of Opportunity”. Excel Communications had to SUE the Baby Bells BEFORE they would release any customers. It would not be prudent to have joined Exel BEFORE they were actually able to supply services. In other words, good timing for a Distributor would have been AFTER the Law Suit was completed and customers were able to actually receive the service, NOT during the two years Excel was suing the Baby Bells. (This includes “”start up companies” who are untested and perhaps under financed). Look for products that distinguish themselves in the Global Market Place.
There are a plethora of "new" companies sprouting up every day. Be sure to employ these Guidelines and Evaluation Points BEFORE you choose your company. Approach your selection with the Intention of finding a company with whom you will be associated with for many years to come. Up until the 1970's it was the "norm" to seek out traditional employment with the Intention of being there 30-40 years or even a lifetime, collecting your Gold Watch and Retiring. These days collecting job titles on a CV and hopping from one company to the next seems like the norm for those in TRADITIONAL EMPLOYMENT, if you can find it! The Network Marketing Arena, attracting entrepeneurs and the traditionally minded alike, has the potential for us to go back to the security of an (extraordinary) income stream for life, if we choose wisely and then find the right sponsor/mentor, company and pay plan, learn the basic skills and Take Action.
If you would like to learn more about these Guidelines or would like assistance in finding a company, feel free to call or write,
The Keys to your Success
Your dreams are your own. Nobody else has YOUR specific goals and dreams.
YOU hold the key to your own success in manifesting your dreams and goals.
How do you DO that? (DO is an action word)
1- ACKNOWLEDGE your goals and dreams
2- Allow them free reign in your heart, soul, brain, subconscious AND Conscious thoughts
3- Write down your goals and dreams and post them all over (your work area, living space, car etc)
4- DO 15-30 minutes of personal development EVERY DAY (tapes, cds, books, meditation, affirmations
5- Remember that your dreams belong to YOU and only you. Be Audacious, bold and daring and be prepared to step OUT of your comfort zone to move forward every day towards your dreams and goals.
6- BE single minded and FOCUSED on your dreams and goals; do not let any one dissuade you or tarnish your dream. COVET YOUR DREAMS and KNOW that they are already yours. It is your job to attract them to you.
Remember that it is the Journey that counts and once you attain your goals and dreams you will give birth to another and another. PAY ATTENTION to the little things that occur daily. THEY are the stuff that dreams are made of :-)
7- Practice The Slight Edge. Take baby steps, every single day.
Contact me for a free Slight Edge Chart and be sure and read The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson.
Remember, whatever you want to be you ALREADY ARE.
Look inside yourself and BELIEVE.
When you take action you invite the Universe to orchestrate things, people and events that will bring your dreams and goals to you. BE KIND TO YOURSELF and others; BE a Compassionate Marketer.
Perception, Gratitude and Dancing in the Rain :-)
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain.
Author Unknown
Wow! How many of us miss all the good stuff that COULD BE because we just don’t know how to appreciate and live in Gratitude?
Yesterday I woke up and on my way to the stairway I found my English Siamese Pussy Cat, Sweet Pea who had decided to stretch out and take a nap, right at the foot of the stairs. Sweet Pea is the same color as my carpet and I didn’t see her! Ooops! I suddenly felt her fur on the bottom of my foot as a quickly withdrew it and broke my toe in the misstep! Ouch
Living in Gratitude means finding the good or positive things in an event or situation.
If I had stepped on Sweet Pea she could have been critically hurt. Splat! I could have lost My balance and tumbled down the stairwell and broken an arm, leg or worse!
Yesterday was a wonderful day! I did not squish the cat, nor did I break a leg! I am sporting a rainbow toe that is
the most beautiful color of raspberry magenta I’ve seen in years. It is a great conversation piece……….. especially for me, a Network Marketer.
Now I am not suggesting that you go and break a toe to start conversations J And, beware of kitties lazing underfoot. The lesson is, however, that I am ever grateful for NOT hurting myself and for my colorful toe which introduced me to several wonderful People yesterday!
Living in Gratitude means perceiving or seeing things differently!
13 years ago I met an old friend, her daughter and husband in New Orleans. I had just moved to Texas from New Jersey, where my friends were still living and it was a reunion of sorts. Two wonderful things happened on that trip!
I wore a lovely summer straw hat on the plane and it seems, other people thought so too as it became a conversation piece allowing me to meet a few great folks, several of whom are STILL my friends. But, when my friends met me at the airport, my dear friend exclaimed, “Oh, it’s just like you to wear a hat and draw attention to yourself”. Negative energy and perception go hand and hand, my friends.
Be aware, be awake and always listen to the Universe!
The second lesson appeared as we were on Bourbon Street going through the Art Galleries and Shops. Suddenly the skies opened up and there was a DELUGE of rain. It rained in torrents for about 15 minutes greeting the already sultry, steamy atmosphere with more of the same.
Make yummy Lemonade, or is this a lesson on Perception?
My friend, bless her, was “upset” about the rain and exclaimed that it was ruining HER day.
Me? I put my straw hat on her husband’s head for safe keeping, ripped off my sandals, lifted my skirts and ran out into the gutters splashing into the torrent of water rushing down the street.
A funny thing happened
in that that moment. People started emerging out of the shops. After watching me for a minute or two, some of them actually joined me in a “gutter splash”, giggling and laughing to THEIR hearts content! LITERALLY, we were dancing in the rain! I even lifted my head and opened my mouth to TASTE the rain!
When was the last time you tasted the rain?
My friends, “Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass; It's about learning to dance in the rain.” **
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about what you do DURING the
Storm that counts!
Remember, you ALREADY ARE everything you want to be, just Take Action and invoke the Law of Intention and her sister, The Law of Attraction will bring you where you want to be!
Go ahead, DANCE in the rain and check this short video out to put a smile on your face!
Thanks to my friend Donna Jean from
Thoughts for the Day for sending this poignant reminder to us all!
May your day be a treasure bringing Increase and Plenty to your door.
How to Get What you Want
The power is WITHIN you.
Many of us are looking elsewhere for the "magic", lament that others "always have the luck" or feel that we "will never be able to achieve" what others have. Simply put, our hearts desire is empowered and grows when we THINK and ENVISION what we want, in actually picture format.
The magic?
Believing that we WILL attain our desire, HOLDING ON to that picture in our heart AND brain and ALLOWING the Universe to help orchestrate the outcome. We must never forget that we are a Magnate that attracts what we get, so keeping focus, "right thinking" and consistently HOLDING ON to that picture creates positive energy.
To learn more about how YOU hold the power to create your own life, paint your own landscape, I am gifting you TNT The Power With You by Claude Bristol, with my love.
What you will read in the pages of this book WILL change your life IF you have the desire to learn from them and ACT on them.
To claim your Book please send an email to
TNT@CompassionateMarketing.com Be sure and include your name, phone number and email address.
I wish you a lifetime of whatever it is that you PICTURE for yourself :-)
May your day be a treasure bringing Increase and Plenty to your door.
When does the Relationship Begin?
Are you a Professional Network Marketer?
Are you in a Service Industry?
Are you a Waitress?
Are you a Physician?
Are you a Milkman? (oops, I’m showing my age)
Are you a Plumber or Electrician?
Are you a Stockbroker?
Are you a Teacher?
It really does not matter WHAT profession or vocation you area in, what matters is how Successful you are. These days Success is usually defined as “having allot of money” however the REAL definition should be how many people you help to better their own lives. This can only happen when you are a Compassionate Marketer and know that the REAL secret to your personal success is in “Helping people Live their Dreams”, giving them a solution to a challenge, taking a genuine interest in them and helping to make their lives better J
Hmmmm, how does one DO that? By consciously having the DESIRE to take an interest in the person and then take ACTION to build a relationship with them. Building a relationship gives you insight into the persons’ needs, requirements, desires, dreams and goals. Once you can define THEIR needs you can better serve them.
The underlying question is then “When does the Relationship Begin?”
If you are a Waitress the relationship building begins with the first, “Hello may I help you?” Ask any Waitress who has a following; customers who will only sit at HER tables when they come to that particular restaurant. WHY? Because she has taken an interest in them, knows their favorite foods, is courteous, warm and INTERESTED in them J She always wears a smile and carries a big heart.
If you are a Physician the relationship building begins with the first, “Hello, what is bothering you today and how may I help you?” Ask any Physician who has built a huge practice with many generations of families coming to him. This Physician has taken the time to get to know each and every patient, their family members and takes an ACTIVE interest in their well-being. He/she is courteous, warm and INTERESTED in them. He wears a big smile and is never rushed.
If you are a Teacher the relationship building begins with the first “Hello, my name is Miss Smith, what’s your name?” Ask any teacher and she will tell you that taking an interest in each child, getting to KNOW them, their family histories, their talents, likes and dislikes is the essential factor that helps in establishing and building relationship with each child. This person always wears a big smile and is eager to sovle any challenge or problem that a child may have.
If you are a Professional Network Marketer the relationship building begins with the first “Hello, my name is Miss Smith” (on the phone or in person) a huge smile, the firm shake of a hand and showing a genuine interest in the prospect rather than “getting them in the deal. “ Taking the time to get to know a persons’ needs, their family’s dreams and goals and their circumstance sends a signal that you VALUE the person you are speaking with rather than looking at them like they are a tasty $$ Dollar sign to be added to your bank account.
Each of these professions has an opportunity to establish RELATIONSHIP at the very first encounter. What happens next is up to YOU.
1- Take an interest in the person (prospect/customer/client/distributor)
2- Put them FIRST and take your time getting to know them
3- Never rush through an encounter or meeting and allow proper time
4- Establish (in your own mind) if your “opportunity” is a good match with your prospect
5- If not, then network with someone else and REFER your prospect to another person. Life has a funny way of coming full circle and you never know what may happen as a result of a sincere referral.
6- Remember your prospect/customer/client/distributors and send Life Cycle greeting cards or a short note to let them know that they MATTER to you.
7- Smile, be sincere and express gratitude for all that you attract in to YOUR life and others will FEEL the gratitude and want to be part of your life :-)
The Secret to Success is not amassing large amounts of money, rather, it is being able to look back and be grateful for myriad opportunities to Help people Live their Dreams, help them solve their problems and share their journey and teach them along the way so that they may teach others.
Why Multi tasking & Multi streaming don't Work
Why Multi tasking & Multi streaming don't Work
I recently enrolled a new Affiliate from the UK & for mis-spelled her name in my Compassionate Marketing NEWSLETTER. This gal is an amazing; an accomplished business woman who is create and eager to build her business recurring income through the company that Compassionate Marketing is associated with. She is a webmaster and has her own thriving business in The UK AND she is fast tracked to be Compassionate Marketing's next UK Leader.
My error was due to that nasty "multi-tasking bug" that sometimes hits us all, and decidedly I have realized that this "incident would be a valuable lesson for us all :-)
I recently watched a documentary about multi-tasking, which of course is akin to multi-streaming in our beloved industry. Many aspiring Network Marketers think that MORE is better. We even see people who join legions of companies at the same time, never accomplishing anything but perhaps maxing out several credit cards with a constant stream of outgo.
The documentary revealed, under an MRI on the brain, that
1- people who multi tasked were LESS apt to absorb, assimilate or achieve excellence in EITHER of their tasks.
2- Our brain can certainly HANDLE multi tasking, however optimum performance and success requires our FULL attention.
3- Today's "techno society" encourages multi tasking/streaming, however the end results are sub par.
Think about driving your car and talking on your cell phone. How much do you miss around you and how are you impeding your reactive skills should they be required?
Think about talking with a new prospect whilst checking your email or typing up a proposal. Hmmmm, how much detail is missing from the document, how many times must you go back and RE read the email and
more importantly, how does your prospect FEEL on the other end of the phone?
We encourage people to always SMILE when they are on the phone because it will be FELT on the other end of the phone.
In the same manner, each and every one of our Prospects AND Affiliates deserves our FULL ATTENTION when we are speaking/training/visiting with them.
Compassionate Marketers know that the secret to Success and creating Long Term Recurring income is by caring about others. That means LISTENING and taking the time to get to know them, their goals and their dreams.
I could write a book about each of my personally sponsored affiliates, and particularly this new lovely gal who is a charming and smart young Entrepreneur who IS a Compassionate Marketer at heart!
Perhaps our new tag line should read:
Compassionate Marketing,
NO multi tasking allowed because you deserve our FULL attention :-)
Have an awesome week my friends. Please feel free to contact me for any assistance you may require. I promise to give you my FULL attention!
The Secret to Believing in Yourself
At a recent Atlanta Leadership Summit I spoke about belief. You know, it's really simple!
"Whatever you want to be you ALREADY ARE."
It's already there, right inside of you. Sometimes we get in our own way and inhibit that which we want the most :-)
There is no magic recipe, what is needed most is that you have faith in yourself and Take Action. That's the secret. Taking Action is the catalyst for "what you already are" to grow and bloom.
Get out of your own way! Give up the ghosties. Stop letting other people rent space in your brain telling you what you can and cannot do, what you an and cannot be. You already ARE---- and as my friend Yoda said, There is no try, there is DO or NO do."
THAT is the secret---- Take Action and BE what you arleady are!
Here is another way to describe your belief in yourself. It comes from a newsletter on Kabbalah.
"Anxiety is internal. It feels real but it's not. Many of us are our own worst enemy because of our unkind belief systems about who we think we are - and are not.
We don't accept ourselves, both the Light and the dark. Somehow we should be better, should be more like someone else, should be further ahead.
To quote The Deer Hunter: "This is this, this ain't something else, THIS IS THIS!'
You have a deep, spiritual soul that has the capacity for unconditional love. The first and most important love is self love, everything flows downstream from there.Today, give yourself the gift of unconditional love."
Remember, "Whatever you want to be you ALREADY ARE."
Let me know how I might help you build your business today by
